Hagerstown offers all the charms of a small town, but close proximity to major freeways means big city amenities are within arm's reach.
Good times are easy to come by around Hagerstown. For kid-friendly fun, check out the interactive exhibits at the Discovery Station downtown, or drive 25 minutes to the South Mountain Creamery where the kiddos can hand-feed the calves. For an outdoor adventure, make a quick trip over to Harper's Ferry, WV for a zipline canopy tour or some leisurely tubing down the Potomac River.
Hagerstown is regarded a the "retail mecca" for the region. Head over to the Valley Mall for shopping at national chain stores like Macy's and Old Navy, or to the Hagerstown Premium Outlet Mall for unbeatable bargains on apparel and home goods. For one-of-a-kind vintage items, stop by Memory Lane Antiques and Flea Market downtown or the Pennsylvania Dutch Market for handmade furniture and crafts.
For a taste of the arts, do date night at the Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater or view the masterpieces at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. Immerse yourself in Civil War history at the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg or walk in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg Fort Frederick State Park. Every Halloween, Hagerstown hosts the legendary Alsatia Mummers' Halloween Parade.
Just 15 minutes outside of Hagerstown is the C&O Canal National Historical Park, located in the scenic Potomac River Valley. There you'll find a 184-mile stretch of trails, campgrounds, historic sites, and more. The Whitetail Ski Resort and the Liberty Ski Resort are a little more than a half hour's drive away in Pennsylvania. Other outdoor attractions include the Western Maryland Rail Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and Hagerstown City Park.
Several historic buildings in downtown Hagerstown were constructed from limestone mined from the surrounding valley. Pictured is the limestone Hager House, which was built in 1740 by the city's founder, Jonathan Hager. To this day, the Hager House, and many other historic homes and buildings throughout Hagerstown, are open to the public. The prevalence of historic architecture throughout the city adds an intricate beauty to the landscape, and makes Hagerstown a truly one-of-a-kind place to live.

At the end of each day, everyone at Kool Smiles knows they've accomplished something that matters—something that makes a difference in the world—a positive change in the lives of children and their families.
Having the right dentist makes all the difference in the world. Our dentists share a common bond: they are passionate about providing quality dental care to families. All of our dentists go through Kool Smiles training upon hire and continue to receive company sponsored continuing education. Many of our dentists are active in both local, regional, or state dental associations, serve on Medicaid advisory boards, and participate in national associations such as American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Kool Smiles is committed to expanding access to quality dentistry and oral healthcare services in underserved communities.
Lack of healthcare coverage, or being enrolled in the Medicaid program, should not undermine an individual’s access to vital dental services.
80% of the nation’s 179,000 practicing dentists refuse to provide care to Medicaid enrollees.
We’ve partnered extensively with local schools, daycares and community organizations to provide much-needed oral health screenings and supplies, free of charge. In 2012 alone, Kool Smiles provided over $18.5 million in dental services to children with no form of payment for those procedures, simply because it was in the best interest of the children and their health.
In addition to strong clinical oversight, Kool Smiles has implemented an advanced electronic health records (EHR) system that is used in every Kool Smiles office across the country to measure and report on clinical compliance. The system is closely monitored by our dental clinical leaders to assure all dentists are in compliance with professional standards as well as ADA and AAPD guidelines.
