Macon is a music mecca, a bustling college town, and a quaint Antebellum dream all rolled into one. Its rich history and Southern charm will captivate your senses and renew your soul.
In Macon, the city's diverse cultural and artistic offerings all combine together to make sweet, sweet harmony. Sway to the beat of live music at the historic Douglass Theatre where Otis Redding was discovered. Walk through music history at the Allman Brother's Museum, one of Macon's most popular attractions. Take in a West African dance performance at the Hayiya Dance Theatre, or see local works of art at the Macon Arts Alliance gallery downtown.
Macon is home to nine colleges and universities, and over 30,000 college students. Of the nine schools, Mercer University, Middle Georgia State College, and Wesleyan College, are considered to have a more traditional student population. Five of Macon's institutions of higher learning are represented by satellite campuses, including Fort Valley State University, Virginia College, and Georgia College & State University, the latter of which is known for its Center for Graduate and Professional Learning.
No matter your tastes or budget, the shops in Macon have it all. Head over to one of Macon's two malls, "Macon Mall" or "The Shoppes at Riverfront Crossing", where you'll find a bevy of major retailers, including Belk, JC Penny, and Dillards. Browse through vintage treasures at Yesterday's Antique Market, or purchase some locally hand-crafted goods at Smiley's Flea Market. If the weather's nice, stop by the Ingleside Village Shopping & Arts District, where you'll find a variety of specialty shops in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Macon's deep roots reach back almost 17,000 years into history, and span several important eras. Within Macon are 11 historic districts, and an astounding 5,500 structures belonging to the National Register of Historic Places. From the ancient Ocmulgee mounds to the lofty homes along the Antebellum Trail, the city boasts an array of historic sites. Not to be missed is the extravagant architecture of the Hay House, the curious history of the Cannonball House, and the sprawling Fort Hawkins Archaeological Park.
There are more cherry blossom trees in Macon than in any city in the world - including cities in Japan or the District of Columbia. Dubbed the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World," the city of Macon has over 300,000 Yoshino cherry blossom trees within its borders. Each March, when an explosion of pink blooms adorn the city's landscape, Macon celebrates with its famous 10-day International Cherry Blossom Festival.

"Working with Kool Smiles I'm doing what I really feel I was meant to do."
Dr. Priya Grewal, DDS
At the end of each day, everyone at Kool Smiles knows they've accomplished something that matters—something that makes a difference in the world—a positive change in the lives of children and their families.
Having the right dentist makes all the difference in the world. Our dentists share a common bond: they are passionate about providing quality dental care to families. All of our dentists go through Kool Smiles training upon hire and continue to receive company sponsored continuing education. Many of our dentists are active in both local, regional, or state dental associations, serve on Medicaid advisory boards, and participate in national associations such as American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Kool Smiles is committed to expanding access to quality dentistry and oral healthcare services in underserved communities.
Lack of healthcare coverage, or being enrolled in the Medicaid program, should not undermine an individual’s access to vital dental services.
80% of the nation’s 179,000 practicing dentists refuse to provide care to Medicaid enrollees.
We’ve partnered extensively with local schools, daycares and community organizations to provide much-needed oral health screenings and supplies, free of charge. In 2012 alone, Kool Smiles provided over $18.5 million in dental services to children with no form of payment for those procedures, simply because it was in the best interest of the children and their health.
In addition to strong clinical oversight, Kool Smiles has implemented an advanced electronic health records (EHR) system that is used in every Kool Smiles office across the country to measure and report on clinical compliance. The system is closely monitored by our dental clinical leaders to assure all dentists are in compliance with professional standards as well as ADA and AAPD guidelines.
